St. Thomas Spring Career Fair

Everything you need to know about the fair.

+70 employers are coming to campus on February 14th to connect with Tommies at the St. Thomas Career Fair. You can meet companies hiring for internships and full-time roles. Whether you’re seeking a job or just want to network and learn more about different industries, this is your chance.

Engage with +70 employers!

  • Check if you can attend before or after class – Look at the career fair schedule and see if you can go before or after your class. Even a short visit can be valuable.
  • Ask your professor – If the fair directly supports your career goals, some professors may allow you to step out for part of the class or provide alternative arrangements. It doesn’t hurt to ask!
  • Roughly 1-1.5 hours: ~15 mins check-in and orientation of the space, depending on the conversations with employers, and 30-60 mins networking with breaks in between.
  • There will be a coat check room in ASC 366. A volunteer will be present to monitor the space, but they are not responsible for any lost or unattended belongings.
  • Reference the map you will receive from the student check-in table. This map will have the booth number and aisle location of each employer attending.
  • We’ve set up a designated space for decompressing, complete with fidgets, puzzles, and a staff member available for a pep talk if needed! Located in ASC 367.
  1. Take a few deep breaths.
  2. Walkthrough the room without speaking to anyone and find the employers you planned to meet with
  3. Listen and observe how others engage with recruiters to inform/personalize your approach.
  4. Step out of the room and get some water.
  5. Make a game plan!
  • List your employers by the level of interest (#1 being the most interest)
  • Add two to three more that were appealing to you as you walked through
  • Now, start with the employer of the least priority.
    • Starting with the employer of least interest will allow you to practice introducing yourself/executing your elevator pitch and get into the rhythm of speaking with recruiters. You must show an equivalent desire to engage with this employer as your top five.

You can have resources to help you out:

  • Prepare your “cheat sheet” of notes on employers that interest you
  • Include 2 or 3 specific questions you may want to ask.
  • Draft 3-5 talking points for employer conversations.
  • Make notes to remember information for your follow-up e-mail/letter
  • Take frequent breaks. Review your notes, plan any follow-up actions, and prepare for your next meeting.

Lastly, smile and be engaging! Have FUN!
